The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade negotiations with 12 countries, including Australia, have closed. The countries are in the process of scrubbing and translating the text, which should be made available to the public in the coming weeks.
While we have not seen the text of the agreement, we do know that it has a robust e-commerce chapter with first-ever rules that prohibit governments from limiting the movement of certain data across borders and from requiring the domestic storage of data. This provision has some exceptions.
To give us a better sense of this language in the TPP and the exceptions, Jennifer Mulveny with Intel has invited Hilary Mcgeachy with DFAT to provide a briefing to interested stakeholders.
